Church Christmas Flyer & Leaflet Design: Build a Theme, Not Just a Poster

Christmas is one of the biggest moments in your church calendar—so it makes sense to give your event promotions the care they deserve. Chances are you’ll be creating a flyer, a leaflet, a social media post or two... maybe even a banner.

But instead of designing each one in isolation, this could be the year you pull everything together into one simple, unified look that makes your church feel clear, welcoming, and prepared.

Whether you're inviting your neighbourhood to a carol service, promoting Christmas Eve events, or spreading the word about your community Christmas Day lunch—good design helps people connect faster and remember longer.

Start with One Clear Christmas Message

Before you jump into design tools, think about the message behind your materials.

Ask:

  • What do we want people to feel this Christmas?

  • What part of the Christmas story are we drawing people into?

  • Can we summarise that in a phrase or title?

Examples:

  • “Light in the Darkness”

  • “Peace Has Come”

  • “God With Us”

  • “Come and See”

👉 Here’s an example of how one church built a full Christmas campaign around a single theme, carrying it from flyers to banners to social media posts:

This message doesn’t just sit on the flyer—it becomes the thread that runs through everything you produce.

Choose a Consistent Look and Feel

Next, choose a visual direction that you can carry across all materials. You don’t need 15 variations of everything—just a few consistent choices go a long way.

Create a simple Christmas style guide that includes:

  • A colour palette (3–4 seasonal tones—navy, gold, forest green, deep red)

  • 1–2 fonts you’ll use across all graphics

  • A few image styles (e.g. soft candlelight photos, stars, minimal line art, warm textures)

💡 You don’t have to use red and green! More churches are leaning into calm, elegant tones like navy and gold or white and silver.

Design the Church Christmas Flyer

This is your foundation piece—the item you’ll repurpose into everything else.

Front:

  • The event title or theme

  • One strong image or visual

  • A short, friendly intro
e.g. “You’re invited to celebrate Christmas with us—carols, candles, and hope for everyone.”

Back:

  • All key event details (what, when, where)

  • Your church logo

  • Contact info or website

  • QR code if you’re using one

  • A clear call to action:
“All are welcome – we’d love to see you there.”

Repurpose Your Design for Other Media

Once your flyer is ready, you can adapt it across platforms without starting from scratch.

Social Media:

  • Instagram post: 1080 x 1080 px

  • Instagram story or Facebook reel: 1080 x 1920 px

  • Facebook event banner: 1200 x 628 px

  • YouTube thumbnail or livestream slide: 1280 x 720 px

Use the same image, fonts, and headline as your flyer—just rework the layout to fit the space.

Email & WhatsApp:

  • Use the flyer design as the header image in your newsletter

  • Create a shortened version of the flyer with key info only for easy forwarding

  • Link or embed the full leaflet as a PDF for download

In-Person:

  • Use the same branding for:

    • Welcome slides

    • Signage around your venue

    • Service sheets or bulletins

    • Pull-up banners or A-boards

Don’t Forget What Matters Most

Good design helps people connect. Clear messaging builds trust. But ultimately, all of this is about inviting people to meet Jesus—some for the first time.

So while layout and colour matter, the most powerful thing you can offer is a sincere, Spirit-led invitation. When your design reflects the heart of your church, it becomes more than a flyer. It becomes a welcome.
